Luke 2:19 But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.
Here we are. We made it—sheep-less and sleepless and shepherd-less—journeying from among the hillsides outside Nazareth. After hearing what the angels said, we had to come.
Look at the baby’s mother. She says nothing, simply gazes at her child in silence. Her eyes sing a melody only her soul can hear. She doesn’t doubt. But others will. What child is this? They’ll want to know. An earthly king or something more?
Standing in the flickering light of this stable, we somehow feel the first notes of an answer sound within us. Mary’s silent eyes fill our hopeful souls with song. Come, let’s go outside together and sing deeply into the cold, dark night where too many remain surrounded only by silence. A new day, a new year—a new way—has dawned.
MOVING FORWARD: Sing a favorite Christmas song today.
Today the Church remembers The Holy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
