SUNDAY, April 1     Easter Sunday

Acts 1:11a They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven?”

I have a hard time putting myself in the shoes of friends we find in the Bible because they come so close to obviously holy things and live to tell the tale. It is comforting when they act human every now and then—when they find themselves caught up in the actual manifestation of God’s glory and love, staring in wonder at the heavens. This was surely a common response in these early days of the church, after the miraculous resurrection of Jesus.

You and I come face-to-face with obviously holy things when we pause long enough to notice. The real trick is to stop and take stock of the beauty but not to stay still so long that we miss the point.

As we begin our journey through the Acts of the Apostles, let us remember that the call of the gospel is one of movement—a call that moves us from place to place, sharing widely and with all the Good News of God in Christ.

MOVING FORWARD: Today, look to heaven and celebrate the wonderful and astounding resurrection of Jesus.
