SATURDAY, July 1

Psalm 33:22 Let your loving-kindness, O LORD, be upon us, as we have put our trust in you.

I believe that the entirety of God’s creation has the ability to help us understand that we have a place in this world—God has a purpose for us to fulfill as a part of creation. During my formative years, I saw God’s grace in the good works done by others, for others, to others. This looked like fully stocked food pantries and clothes closets, monetary donations to local shelters, Christmas and birthday gifts for homeless teens.

These good examples led me to teach Sunday school and sing in the church choir. But I was completely unprepared for the spiritual awakening that walking and running in God’s great outdoors has brought to my life. Once I discovered that the God of waterfalls and streams, woods and prairies was also my God, I felt connected to God in a way I never had before.

Each time I go outside I am reminded that God really does love me. God truly wants what’s best for me. God created the world—of course God wants us to be out there enjoying it! Even when I can’t get outside, I am connected to and nourished by God in profound ways.

MOVING FORWARD: Spend some time outside today. What do you think God might be saying to you in creation?
