Romans 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

When my son was around seven years old, he had a little book called One-Minute Devotions for Boys that he read in the mornings as I drove him to school. One morning he told me the devotional was called, “Love lasts.” When I asked him what he thought that meant, he simply said, “Love never dies.” I said, “That’s a really important message. Some people are afraid to love.”

“Why?” he asked, with such wonder and surprise. I told him some people feel afraid of being hurt, or they may be afraid that the person they love won’t love them back. Both of these things happen sometimes, but that’s okay. Love is still there, and it still matters. I said, “Our hurts go away but, like the book says, love lasts forever. So if you love someone, it’s important to say you love him or her and don’t be afraid. You love as much as you want, okay?” He said, quite brightly, “Okay, Mama!”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all be so accepting of the concept of love?

MOVING FORWARD: Offer a gift of love—a kind word, a drink of water, a smile, forgiveness, or your time—to someone in need.
