1 Corinthians 11:28 Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
Our liturgy invites us into this work of discerning the body. We open our hearts to encounter Christ in the scriptures and the sermon and to tell the whole sweeping story of salvation in the Nicene Creed. Our everyday lives are brought into our worship, confessed to God’s goodness, grace, and mercy during the prayers of the people and the confession. We stretch out our hands in love to strangers, friends, and enemies as we exchange the peace—a sign of the kinship that we have as members of one body in Christ. By fully engaging the work of the liturgy, we prepare ourselves—in the words of Saint Augustine—to become what we see and receive what we are at God’s table.
MOVING FORWARD: Invite some friends over for a meal and use the good stuff. Share your menus and pictures with us by using #ForwardDayByDay.
