MONDAY, May 15

Colossians 3:23 Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters.

I should always have this verse from Colossians in front of me. I want to remember that life works so much better when I act from a place of love and gratefulness rather than competition and comparison.

My friend Shauna recently coined the motto “More Love, Less Hustle” to remind herself of what is most important. We both live and work in worlds where numbers matter. These numbers make it tempting to work solely in the pursuit of raising our retweets, shares, followers, commenters, likes, etc. When I work with the specter of those numbers in my head, whatever I’m writing or talking about or sharing feels draining, lifeless, and soul-numbing. But when I shove aside the pursuit of numbers, carrying out the work as though I am actually doing it for the Lord—when I act from a place of love—the joy of it returns to me tenfold.

MOVING FORWARD: How would you apply “More Love, Less Hustle” to your life? Tag your ideas with #ForwardDayByDay.
