TUESDAY, May 16

Psalm 68:6a God gives the solitary a home and brings forth prisoners into freedom.

I think of my friend Mark and his tattoo of this psalm. This verse also reminds me of my friend Aaron’s work with our homeless neighbors. I think of Christy and Sarah, and the three foster siblings they welcomed into their home. I see my other friend Kelly adopting a 17-year-old.

When I read this psalm and witness the love of my friends, I am reminded in no uncertain terms that God does indeed make homes for the homeless and sets the lonely in families. Sometimes these families look like Norman Rockwell paintings, but more often than not they look like AA meetings, Bible study groups, weight training classes, and surprise friendships.

Because of this great creativity of the Holy Spirit, we are all invited to participate in this home-making process. We are all empowered to remove the aloneness and loneliness of others by staying open to the ways in which the Spirit is moving, opening our eyes to the countless opportunities all around us.

MOVING FORWARD: Who are the friends in your life who have become family to you? Send them a note or give them a call to thank them.
