Isaiah 55:10-11 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
I serve on a commission that meets at the camp; during one meeting, we had a short break. I wanted to take a walk but didn’t want to get too far from our meeting spot. Then a thought hit me: Run the labyrinth.
It is impossible to take a wrong turn in a labyrinth—the way in is the way out. As I ran, I felt that deep call and response between the joy of running on a path my daughter had paved and the peace that finds me when I run. I wasn’t prepared for the connection I felt to Nia as I ran. We sent her to camp to work and be happy, and her good work reminded me of my own happiness—of how proud I was of her and how happy I was to run.
MOVING FORWARD: Find a labyrinth to walk (or run) or find a model to trace with your finger.
