Matthew 25:18 But the one who had received the one talent went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
Yet the central business of being human is to take the wildest, most unreasonable risks—to love and be loved. Formed in the image of God—in the image of love—we know that to offer and accept love is risky business indeed. God has given us life to invest our love in other people—even in the unlikely and unlikeable.
When we love from our deepest selves, doing the things we were created to do, the joys of our neighbors and family thrill us; their sorrows and disappointments break our hearts. Love’s return on investment is rarely immediate. But in the resurrection of Jesus, by God’s grace, the dividends are limitless.
MOVING FORWARD: Where do you need to invest more in your life—intention, attention, or affection?
