Matthew 20:31 The crowd sternly ordered them to be quiet; but they shouted even more loudly, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”
I wonder what the people in the crowd are thinking. Maybe some are frustrated that the blind men are seeking attention while a sibling or parent is dying at home. Perhaps some think these men don’t deserve Jesus’ mercy. Others might fear the scene will devolve into a riot. Regardless of their concerns, the crowd acts together, trying to stop needy people from asking Jesus for help.
I like to think that I would say, “Hey Jesus—over here! These guys need you!” But I know myself better than that. I would follow the crowd. Lord God, give me the courage to step outside of the crowd and lift up the voices of the needy rather than silence them.
MOVING FORWARD: Does your worship community have a prayer list? If so, consider adding these petitions to your own prayer time.
