Genesis 22:1-2 After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.”
Before I knew what was happening, my dad pulled over and jumped out. As young as I was, I’ll never forget the look in his eyes, looking at the typewriter on the street and then back at at me, safe and sound. I can’t begin to imagine his thoughts—the terrifying possibility of me lying on the ground instead of the typewriter.
God shows us the frailty of life in large and small ways. We might not want to believe that God tests us, but if God can test Abraham, who are we to be exempt? We’re wise to remember that each day is a gift that we’ll never reopen.
MOVING FORWARD: When have you felt tested? How did it go?
