SUNDAY, April 22     4 Easter

Acts 10:28 And [Peter] said to them, “You yourselves know that it is unlawful for a Jew to associate with or to visit a Gentile; but God has shown me that I should not call anyone profane or unclean.”

Fear. Anxiety. Uncertainty. Security. Prejudice. These emotions and more prompt us to place labels on people. These labels offer tidy definitions that help us deal with people who are different from us. The problem is that humans are far too complex to be fully understood or completely categorized. We are very much and very many and far beyond labeling.

The work of God, from the beginning of time until right now, is creating and collecting. Even when God sets a nation apart, God does so in order to make the nation a light and example to the entire world about how to live in covenantal relationship with each another and with God. Acts is the story of a gospel that is bigger than one people, bigger than any concept that has come before it. We see in these stories that God is indeed making all things new and calling all of creation into reconciliation and restoration. And that is quite a story.

MOVING FORWARD: How are you being called to seek hidden holiness in the world and in your own heart?
