Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
But Christ looks beyond our self-imposed limits, giving us permission to know our worth—we are children of God. What we do can never be too big because it reflects well on God and, in ways large and small, improves the lives of others. As the writer Marianne Williamson pointed out, “We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us…And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Carry yourself as a child of God. Let your light shine and soon you’ll see there is enough radiance to not only light a house, but also the world.
MOVING FORWARD: Light a candle and pray.
Today the Church remembers Philander Chase, Bishop of Ohio, and of Illinois, 1852.
