SATURDAY, September 23

Psalm 23:6 Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

We tend to cite Psalm 23 in times of death or difficulty as a place for solace and comfort. I wonder what we might learn if we looked at the psalm as an affirmation of life?

My pastor once preached in a sermon that Christ loves us, not generally and abstractly, but specifically and concretely. I feel this concrete, solid-as-a-rock love when I read our verse for today. It is a liberating feeling, this love.

This sure and certain love reminds me that if God is with me in the darkest valley, God is also abiding here beside me in the ordinariness of a day, while I sit typing, marveling at the golden leaves outside my office window. God’s goodness and mercy are here now. We all dwell in this house of the Lord now. Thanks be to God.

GIVING BACK: Share God’s love with those who desperately need to receive it with your gift to Forward Movement.
