Matthew 25:40 And the King will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
Right here on Earth, people go hungry, children sleep under bridges, and powerful people exploit the helpless and the needy. Some races and classes enjoy privilege while others start life from a decided disadvantage.
If Jesus reigned like a despot—barking orders that produced blind submission—he could be blamed for this mess. But Jesus reigns with compassion. He does not push his subjects around like chess pieces from a comfortable distance. He loves up close with abandon.
By loving us, Jesus has made us the unshakably beloved. Eventually, his love will bring us to love others as if our own lives depended upon it. The reign of Christ is still a work in progress.
