Mark 5:21-43. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?”
This happens among us, too. Working in Actors’ Repertory Theater in Rutland, Vermont, I, a first time actor, was astounded at what happened on opening night. We had rehearsed and rehearsed, and we knew our lines, where to stand, when to enter; but opening night we were better. When the audience laughed, we became funnier, more animated. I had never dreamed that the audience would draw forth power from us.
It happens in church, too, especially when there is chanting. Voice speaks to voice, and music is made, better than any one voice.
We are meant to be in community, to share our talents and our needs, to draw forth from each other the best we have. Even Jesus needed the bleeding woman’s touch, and touched, he, the Son of God, was able to be the Healer.
