Psalm 78:5-7 He gave his decrees to Jacob and established a law for Israel, which he commanded them to teach their children; That the generations to come might know, and the children yet unborn; that they in their turn might tell it to their children; So that they might put their trust in God, and not forget the deeds of God, but keep his commandments.
For me, teaching children about God is more about assuring them that the presence they already feel is real. We can do this by helping children find a church environment where they can learn about God, the gifts God has in store for them, and the unique position they are in to bring God’s word to others. These are among the most joyful and solemn tasks we can undertake as people who are educating and raising children. In teaching our children, they become the teachers, as we remember and reconnect with our initial encounters of God and feel once more the purity and power of our love for the Creator.
MOVING FORWARD: Who was the first person to tell you about God? If you are able, thank that person today or give thanks for that person’s witness.
Today the Church remembers Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop of Winchester, 1626.
