SUNDAY, January 27                  3 Epiphany

1 Corinthians 12:14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.

Faith communities, from home Bible studies to cathedrals, are made up of uniquely gifted individuals. Beyond celebrating each person’s gifts, here’s a good question to ask: Since God has intentionally assembled us and our diverse gifts together in this place, what does God want us to do together?

To answer this, some congregations take walks around their neighborhood to discover which of their neighbors’ needs best match the gifts of the community. Others discern common values to establish and work toward common purposes.

A small parish in my home diocese is passionate about helping kids be prepared for school, so they work all year long to provide more than 700 filled backpacks to local families each year. We are many parts and one amazing body. Thanks be to God.

MOVING FORWARD: What unique gift do you bring to your faith community? Share it with us by using #ForwardDayByDay.
