Acts 6:15 And all who sat in the council looked intently at him, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

A month after Hurricane Andrew hit Miami in 1992, we realized our family was going to be camping in an RV for months. Meanwhile, my husband and I both had full-time college teaching responsibilities. One day the academic dean came to my office and said, “I’ve done a zip code search to see which faculty live in badly damaged areas. I don’t want you to worry about keeping regular office hours and campus hours.” I felt like an angel had visited and given me just the kind of grace I needed.

Both our daughters had graduated from college in May, and all their possessions stored at home were ruined by Andrew. A dean at our younger daughter’s college sent a letter saying, “I wonder if you lost your diploma or your Phi Beta Kappa key. If so, we want to replace them.” Another angel came to comfort us.

Many variations of angels’ faces and messages of love cross our paths. It is especially good and important to pause and be grateful for people like Stephen—angel-faced messengers—who do faith-filled, kind, thoughtful acts when we need them most.

MOVING FORWARD: Who has been the face of an angel to you? When have you been the face of an angel to another?
