Mark 5:36 But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue. “Do not fear, only believe.”
Fortunately, this doesn’t happen nearly as often in my life as it used to. Age and wisdom have certainly helped me learn to mute Fear, to push it away. A closer relationship with God and Jesus, watered and fed by scripture, has also helped. I believe in Jesus and that he can heal all of my wounds.
The conviction of the hemorrhaging woman strengthens me. She has heard about a man who has been healing people by his touch, and this good news sustains her as she fights the crowds to draw close to Jesus. The depth of her belief makes me believe that I am also worthy of finding relief from the hemorrhaging voice in my head that I’m not enough, that I’ll never be enough. I turn to what always brings me to a place of peace—I reach out to Jesus and hear him say, “Do not fear. Only believe.”
MOVING FORWARD: How do you press the mute button on fear?
