1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

How do we glorify God in our bodies? We do so by remembering we are meant to have both a physical and spiritual relationship with God. Like Michelangelo’s Adam reaching out to touch the hand of God, every cell of my being desires my Creator’s life-giving touch. Sometimes I am present enough to God’s being that a breeze feels like a caress.

Learning about my own body, finding faith within its very cell walls, helps me recognize the communion between God and my body. Even though I will leave my body someday, I believe my bones will still vibrate—reaching out, still craving the soothing completion of the Last Day, when my body finally shakes itself into dust, taking that last leap toward the Divine. An embrace awaits my whole self when I reach the other side.

MOVING FORWARD: What classic painting or motif best illustrates how you feel about your relationship with God?
