SATURDAY, December 29

Revelation 1:7 Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.

Today, the church remembers Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Becket, a martyr for the faith. I also remember the men, women, and children killed in the Wounded Knee massacre, Archbishop Óscar Romero, Sophie Scholl, faithful members at Mother Emanuel in Charleston, South Carolina, and at First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs, Texas, as well as a litany of other saints who have met their end with prayers to the Living God on their lips.

When Henry II sent soldiers into the cathedral to rid him of a meddlesome priest, when the 7th Cavalry sought revenge on those living on the Pine Ridge Reservation, when a monster arrives in the guise of a friend, or an unjust sentence is meted out for proclaiming the gospel, the heart of Jesus is grieved. And one day, on that great last day, all accounts will be called into order, and love will reign supreme.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you have amends to make before the new year begins? Make things right today.
