SATURDAY, November 3

Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Jesus is clear: where our treasure is, our heart will be also. I always seem to get these mixed up. If only I could get this…then that would happen. If only my intentions were right, then I could do better.

As I reflect on the lives of the saints of God, one constant stands out: deep commitment to prayer. For those of us aiming to be one too, prayer is the treasure where our hearts must be fixed. Prayer, to paraphrase Saint Augustine, is simply one friend sharing with another the heart’s deepest desires. Prayer is that open line of communication to our Maker, a pipeline allowing the fuel of grace to flow into our hearts.

O Lord, may my heart be fixed where true joy is to be found, not in possessions or wealth nor sentimentality or nostalgia, but in the very heart of God, my Redeemer.

MOVING FORWARD: Make this prayer part of your quiet time for the next week.
