SUNDAY, February 3                  4 Epiphany

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.

In one of my daughter’s favorite books, the lead character usually ends up in trouble shortly after confidently proclaiming to the world how much she knows. “I KNOW how to do laundry, mom!” says Olivia the pig, moments before mixing her father’s white shirts with her red socks.

Olivia’s stories resonate with me because I know overconfidence all too well. Paul reminds us that there is far more to God than we realize. It is not as though we are unable to know at least part of God on this side of eternity, for Epiphany reminds us that God is revealed to us in Jesus. We do well to approach this revelation with a dose of humility.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you struggle with being overconfident or overly humble? What would a happy medium look like for you?
