Matthew 13:10-17. The reason I speak to them in parables is that “seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.”
I am a firm believer in the methodology Jesus employed in his own preaching and teaching, especially his constant use of easy-to-grasp images and parables. I will never understand why more preachers don’t try this two-thousand-year-old, proven-to-be-100-percent-effective methodology. The fact is the images, stories, and parables of Jesus bring the gospel message to life.
The disciples of Jesus question this methodology in today’s passage from Matthew’s Gospel, and Jesus’ answer applies just as well to us in our time. In spite of all of our media gadgets, communications systems, and technological tools, we still need to truly perceive, listen, and understand.
