Psalm 145:15 The LORD upholds all those who fall; he lifts up those who are bowed down.
Pain blared through my various joints, muting the embarrassed feeling of falling down. I couldn’t have been sitting there for more than thirty seconds when a man and a woman walked over. “You okay?” the man asked. “Yep.” “Just getting your breath back?” asked the lady. “Yep.” I said something funny, got up, and went on my way.
Falling down is painful. With this fall, physical and emotional pain raced through my body, pacing each other. What I remember most is that feeling of being surrounded by the two people who came to help me. As soon as I saw them walking toward me, the panic I felt at having fallen faded away.
God never leaves us alone when we fall. Sometimes, it takes a minute to see and hear God in the faces and voices of strangers who offer kindness, mercy, comfort, and helping hands.
MOVING FORWARD: Who helped you up the last time you fell down, emotionally or otherwise?
Today the Church remembers Independence Day.
