SATURDAY, January 5

Psalm 2:13 Happy are they all who take refuge in him.

Be encouraged by today’s readings about God’s faithfulness through the ages. God tells Joshua and the Israelites to be strong and courageous as they pass into the Promised Land because God is with them wherever they go. In Hebrews, we read about Jesus being the author and perfecter of our faith. In Matthew, Jesus says if we remain connected to him like a branch drawing life from its vine, we will bear fruit and our joy will be complete.

Today’s readings also call us to intentionality in close relationships. We must face fear with courage that comes from faith, avoid distractions that would take us off track, and cling to the source of our life rather than isolate ourselves. This sounds daunting. Apart from God, we could not do it. But the good news of Christmas is that God is with us!

MOVING FORWARD: What has been made real or new in your life that reminds you of God’s presence with us? How will you celebrate this last day of Christmas?
