WEDNESDAY, December 5

Isaiah 2:4b They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

I have found myself clinging to these words tighter and tighter in the last few years. I hold dear to my heart the hope that there will be a time of right judgment and a righteous judge coming to make things right. I dream about the day when we will live out of each other’s abundance and kindness toward each other.

What would happen if we started lifting up our hearts, our best selves to each other and to the world? What if we stopped thinking we could solve problems with force and started growing relationships rooted in love of neighbor instead of love of power? What if we decided to study how to wage peace instead of spending billions of dollars waging war? Surely, we’ve done things the same way for long enough with little to no net gain and a whole ocean of innocent blood shed. It’s time to give something new a try.

GIVING BACK: Consider making a donation to Episcopal Peace Fellowship.
