Psalm 61:2 I will call upon you from the ends of the earth with heaviness in my heart; set me upon the rock that is higher than I.
Part of growing up is learning to be independent. In the case of my children, they sometimes want to do things on their own before they are actually ready.
When we read or listen to scripture, we are frequently confronted with the reality that dependence has great value as well.
If all is well—the bills are paid, the job is fulfilling, the family is whole—we are fine with independence. But what happens when all is not well or important benchmarks fail to be met?
The psalmist remembers something we often forget: There is comfort in dependence when we are depending on One greater than ourselves.
MOVING FORWARD: Do you have a healthy support system for when things are not going well? Thank those friends and family members today.
