Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
And then there are the sparrows: Drab, brown-coated, common, everyday birds. I can’t tell them apart and don’t even try. It’s a good thing God is not bored with small, seemingly identical birds, or we would all be in trouble.
More than seven billion people currently live on the earth. Estimates indicate that since the emergence of the human race, around 100 billion of us have been born. These are rather daunting numbers to contemplate. Perhaps the greatest miracle of all is that God loves and knows all of creation deeply, loves us more than words can say, loves the unique and ordinary things about each and every single one of us. We are, indeed, of more value than many sparrows.
MOVING FORWARD: How do you hear God speaking to you through creation?
