Psalm 135:6-7 The LORD does whatever pleases him, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the deeps. He brings rain clouds from the ends of the earth; he sends out lightning with the rain, and brings the winds out of his storehouse.

Many of us set fitness goals that for one reason or another fail. Maybe we have an injury, or we lose our motivation. Maybe our schedules aren’t as flexible as we thought they were. Maybe we secretly hate running or lifting or biking or sweating. Whatever the reason of our failures, it’s okay for us to start over.

Putting aside my myriad physical maladies, a friend and I started walking our neighborhood high school’s track. I noticed a real difference in my attitude and perspective on life after spending more time outdoors each day and by giving my body the chance to do something good.

Eventually, I started walking on trails. I decided that I would not allow myself any excuses to skip a day. Rain or snow, I have been on the trails, usually by myself. I have been thankful for rain and snow when others complain. Accepting the weather as it comes each day helps me accept that whatever God decides to do is the right thing, because it’s what God decided to do. It’s up to us how we see it, and what we do with it. I choose to run.
