SATURDAY, April 7     Saturday in Easter Week

Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.

The fly in the ointment of Christian faith is pride. Our faith makes absolute statements about the world and the place of faithful followers of Christ in it. It is easy to take these claims and wear them as a shield, rather than offering them as a salve. Christian history is littered with examples of what happens when pride becomes a weapon rather than an invitation.

Perhaps a better way to think through our claims of faith absolutes is through a lens of humility and vulnerability. We believe that because of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the world is a fundamentally different place. That difference is meant to infiltrate our own lives as well. We are called to interact with the whole world through the lens of Jesus Christ.

The good news is this: Through us, Christ dares to leaven the world’s values with God’s grace. We are called into the vocation of preaching the good news of God in Christ to the world by emulating these examples of humility and grace.

MOVING FORWARD: Make a loaf of bread to share this week. Leaven it with love.
