Mark 12:29-30 Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ ”
Maybe you had your crush’s picture on your bedroom wall, or you listened—with headphones on and eyes closed—to their music constantly. If you had those kinds of feelings for someone with whom you interacted in real life, perhaps your palms turned sweaty at their approach, your heart pounding away in your chest. I think about the delight I felt over the dimple in John Travolta’s chin (circa Grease and Saturday Night Fever) and the electricity in his blue, blue eyes.
Have you ever summoned such emotion in thinking about God? What would it take to feel faint for love of the Lord, to have God consume your whole self? Seek God out and feel the wonder of love—not just limerence—but love.
MOVING FORWARD: Write a love letter to God.
