Acts 4:34-35 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
Today’s reading from Acts reveals a wider concept of what it means to have the Holy Spirit living in us. When we realize that we are not the centers of the universe, we begin the process of ceding that center to God. As the new—and rightly placed—center of our lives, God opens our eyes and ears to the people around us about whom God is concerned—the hurting, the lost, the lonely, and the least.
When we welcome the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts, we are given numerous opportunities to live generously in love, joy, and hope—and chances to give without regret or second thought. The generosity of God teaches us how to be generous to each other and to experience the Holy Spirit moving in and through us.
MOVING FORWARD: How will you respond to the Holy Spirit’s call to live generously today?
