SUNDAY, December 1                           1 Advent

Matthew 24:43 But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.

Welcome to Advent, the season of anticipation and hope, the season of the prophets. A prophet (or navi in Hebrew) is the spokesperson of God. Prophets speak a true word from God, wake and shake people to attention, and draw us back to God’s purposes. Advent is the season for waking up and imagining a world where God’s dream is a reality for us all.

Advent is also an ideal season to take up the Way of Love, a rule of life that guides many of us in the Episcopal Church seeking to practice Jesus-centered living. The first practice on the Way is turn: waking, pausing, listening intently, and choosing to follow Jesus. Let us turn this Advent as we make our way to the crèche.

MOVING FORWARD: Wherever you are in your journey with God in Christ, take this moment to turn to God with fresh intention and attention. You’ll be in good company.
