John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
Tonight we remember this seemingly simple commandment, when Jesus tells his followers to love one another. There’s a danger that we will mistake this commandment as merely suggesting that we be nice to one another. As we gaze at Christ’s life, we soon realize that Jesus is calling us not to something sentimental or sweet but to an all-embracing, sacrificial love. It’s impossible if we try to do it ourselves, of course. But tonight, we also remember that when we feast at the Holy Eucharist, Jesus is with us, nourishing us for our journey.
MOVING FORWARD: Commit to worshiping each day of the Triduum, starting today through Easter Eve.
