Luke 22:55-57 When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. Then a servant-girl, seeing him in the firelight, stared at him and said, “This man also was with him.” But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.”
When I moved from the Southeastern United States to the Pacific Northwest, I experienced being a “churchy” person in a more secular part of the country. I came to understand Peter in a whole new way. Peter’s denial that he knows Jesus falls right out of his mouth, without a second thought.
Peter makes a painfully human choice to place his immediate safety and comfort before his faith. I have learned this is easy to do. But when I risk knowing Jesus in public, the rewards are beyond my reckoning.
MOVING FORWARD: How will you confront discomfort in sharing your faith?
