TUESDAY, December 10
Amos 7:14-15 Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I am no prophet, nor a prophet’s son; but I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore trees, and the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’”
Amos is not a prophet. He’s not even the son or grandson or nephew of one. He tends his flock, prunes the trees, and minds his business…until the call. You can practically see him jump when he hears the voice of God saying, Amos, I’m talking to you. Let’s go.
Prophets like Amos are surprised to be drafted by God. The Bible is full of these stories. God enjoys working with simple folk who know the only way they can do something amazing is if God is working in them.
MOVING FORWARD: When you feel especially weak or ill equipped, keep your ears and eyes open. God is calling.
