SATURDAY, April 10          Saturday in Easter Week

Mark 16:15 And [Jesus] said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.”

It’s easy to lose sight of some of the most important—and simplest—work we are meant to do as followers of Jesus. In our churches, we can be overwhelmed by the labors of keeping things running, of merely surviving. We can become slavishly devoted to the maintenance of familiar practices. We worry so much about rocking the boat that we aren’t as adventurous as we should be. Jesus cuts to the chase here, as he gives marching orders to his followers, and to us.

Proclaim the good news to the whole creation.

How are we doing? Are we proclaiming the radical grace of Jesus, not merely the platitudes of greeting-card Christianity? Are we setting aside those things that distract us so we can share good news and make disciples? Are we getting outside our familiar places to make sure every person hears the glad news of Jesus’ love?

MOVING FORWARD: When was the last time you told someone why you love Jesus? Make a plan (and follow through with it!) to proclaim the good news to a friend, family member, or neighbor.
