SUNDAY, May 10                           5 Easter

1 Peter 2:7b The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner.

Greta Thunberg doesn’t seem like a likely prophet. Yet at sixteen years old, she shamed the United Nations’ General Assembly for their unwillingness to take substantive and swift action to combat climate change, and she inspired millions of people to join the fight.

Malala Yousafzai was an eleven-year-old the first time she spoke out publicly against the Taliban’s ban on girls attending school in northwest Pakistan; four years later, a Taliban gunman attempted to murder her, shooting her in the head. She lived, becoming the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in 2014.

Prophets—from the young virgin Mary, chosen to give birth to our Savior, to Saul, converted from persecutor to apostle—come from unexpected places. The stones we often reject—for being too young or poor, uneducated, unrecognized, or unimportant—can become the foundation upon which we all stand. Thanks be to God.

MOVING FORWARD: What unlikely person has important truths that you need to hear? How will you open your heart to their words?
