SUNDAY, June 10     3 Pentecost

Genesis 3:9 But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”

Hide and Seek is a coffee-hour ritual for the children at our church. The joyful shrieking of toddlers echoes through the parish hall and around campus as they playfully search each other out.

As I write this meditation, I’m sitting in my office listening to a four-year-old call out to another four-year-old, “Where aaarrre you??” I can’t help but hear the voice of God in that question, calling out in the garden—calling out in my heart and yours, even now, “Where are you?” In the midst of the busyness of life, in spite our own confidence that we don’t need any help and regardless of our delusion that we have everything under control, God is constantly pursuing us.

No matter how well we hide or how distracted we may become, God never gives up on us; God is always seeking us, calling out, “Where are you?” May we listen intently enough to hear and discern deeply enough to answer.

MOVING FORWARD: In your prayer time today, tell God exactly where you are—in your career, your relationships, your homework assignments, your budget. Ask God to meet you in each of those places.
