MONDAY, June 10

Luke 18:40-41 Jesus stood still and ordered the man to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me see again.”

The question Jesus poses to the blind man on the road to Jericho seems awkward. “What do you want me to do for you?” Obviously, the man wants to see. Everybody knows this—yet Jesus still asks the question.

Jesus is concerned with what we need and want. He stands ready to supply it. But first, we have to answer Jesus’ question. “What do you want me to do for you?”

We may have obvious needs for healing—illness or physical challenges—but we might also consider the need for Jesus’ intervention with aspects of our lives that we ignore, suppress, or that hold us back and prevent us from living as God intends. The Holy Spirit wants to bring these areas in the light so that healing can begin.

Jesus asks us a question, and we would do well to find an answer.

MOVING FORWARD: What is your answer to Jesus’ question?
