SATURDAY, January 11

Colossians 3:14-15 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.

The Bible has more than 31,000 verses and roughly 1,200 pages, give or take a few depending on the translation. How wonderful it is when a passage like this one from Colossians ties all of them together so neatly. Whatever else we read, whatever points of doctrine or theology we ponder, one message binds everything together in perfect harmony: love.

Paul echoes Jesus’ great commandment to love God with our whole beings and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. When we let love rule all that we do, we can truly dwell in the peace of unity with Christ and with all who walk the Way. To know that peace, to live as one in the Body of Christ, is truly a blessing for which to be thankful.

MOVING FORWARD: Listen to and watch Leonard Bernstein conduct Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, a magnificent celebration of perfect harmony. (You can find it with a quick Internet search!)
