THURSDAY, February 11 [Theodora]

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

I did not realize until my marriage of thirty years fell apart that a broken heart literally, physically hurts. I wondered if I should see a cardiologist, but a routine physical proved me physically fit and healthy.

There are no pills or surgeries to treat a broken heart. Fortunately, I knew where to turn for the type of healing I needed. My medicine was prayer and meditation and walking in the desert. When a friend happened to call at a particularly low moment, I regarded her kindness as God binding my wounds. God comforted me with yellow brittlebush blossoms in the spring, hummingbirds in my garden, hugs from my grandchildren, and laughter and tears with friends.

Gradually the pain in my chest went away, and God healed me of that particular heartache.

MOVING FORWARD: What can you do to be the hands of God, binding the wounds of another? Call, visit, or pray for someone in your life who is brokenhearted.
