WEDNESDAY, September 11

Psalm 49:4 Why should I be afraid in evil days, when the wickedness of those at my heels surrounds me?

We live in a world that is, in some very real ways, infected by evil. From genocides and wars to racism and other forms of discrimination, evil snakes in and around us in insidious, awful ways.

But thanks be to Jesus, we do not have to be slaves to evil and sin. Jesus tells us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. While we mourn the evil done around us, by us, and on our behalf, we also must renew our determination to stand against evil, affirming our desire to be an Easter people, to create and seize opportunities for reconciliation and peace whenever they arise.

MOVING FORWARD: Include special prayers for peace during your quiet time today, remembering those who have been personally touched by violence, war, or hatred.
