SUNDAY, January 12                  1 Epiphany

Psalm 29:3-4 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendor.

Growing up around boats and having served in the Navy, I learned to both dread and love storms at sea. Nothing else makes me feel so small and yet so connected to the enormity of God’s creation as a storm at sea.

Our lives are filled with storms that can make us feel helpless, small, and lost. But whatever storms come at us, we must remember there are no waters mightier than those that washed us clean at baptism.

At baptism, the living waters of Christ flow around, over, and through us with a power this world cannot overcome. God speaks to us in these waters and will guide us through any storm, if we only take the time to listen. Even in our darkest hours, our Lord speaks to us with a voice of splendor, thundering glory, and love.

MOVING FORWARD: Consider adding a small holy water font to your home to remind you of your baptism.
