THURSDAY, November 12                  Charles of Simeon

James 1:2-4 My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.

Before we learn to read, we begin to get ideas about God. Our parents and friends, our teachers and neighbors are painting little pictures in our minds.

One very helpful way of reading the scriptures is to look for the personal element. Read the story of David, for example, and ask: What kind of boy was he? What was he like as a young man? What sort of king did he become? What did people think of him? Don’t try to blame or to praise; just try to see David as a real live person.

As you learn to see God working in people, you will come to feel and hear God when God speaks to you.

MOVING FORWARD: How do you celebrate joy in your journey? Has your way of celebrating varied with age or experience?
