WEDNESDAY, December 12

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”

I’ve been watching folks between 15 and 30 years old making their voices heard in profound and culture-shifting ways. Like Isaiah, they are young and fresh and wide-eyed, but they have been paying remarkable attention to the world around them. They know their stories; they understand their contexts. They do not suffer fools lightly.

Searing experiences fundamentally change us, and these young people have held and kissed the live coals of a fiery time in the world. From Ferguson, Baltimore, Canon Ball, Charleston, Parkland, and Olympic training centers, to high school auditoriums, college lecture halls, the cubicle farm on the third floor, and all the places in between, these children of God are saying over and over, in the face of incredible odds and lifelong fights, “Here I am; send me!” They understand that God calls each of us to a holy purpose—and they are willing to bravely answer when they hear God’s voice.

MOVING FORWARD: To what, where, or whom is God calling you? How are you answering?
