SUNDAY, July 12                           6 Pentecost

Isaiah 55:10-11 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Discernment—holy listening—is a faithful practice that requires vulnerability, reliance on others, and the Holy Spirit.

I have found that immersing myself in creative activities quiets the anxiety of waiting and opens my ears to hear. Singing, cooking, knitting, painting, and writing all open me to the voice of God—encouraging and coaxing me into knowing what God is speaking to and about me. I'm learning patience, but each season of serious discernment in my life has proven over and over again that I am beloved of God.

MOVING FORWARD: When was your last season of discernment? What did you learn?
