MONDAY, January 13                  Hilary of Poitiers

John 1:12-13 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.

When I was thirty years old, a medical issue unexpectedly ended my career in the Navy. My career had been my entire focus in life, and I defined my personhood and my worth by it. When everything came crashing down, I had to learn the true source of my worth in Christ. I had to be spiritually reborn.

When we receive Christ in our hearts, we are reborn—not just as new people but as entirely new creations. We are remade as children of God, no longer bound by our flesh and the ways of this world. Our worth, our meaning, and our eternal place in creation are of God. And nothing of this world can shake that.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you know someone who is recovering from an illness? Make a point of spending some time with that person this week—stop by to pray or drop off a snack or have a chat.

PRAY for the Dioceses of Gujarat and Kolhapur (both in India)

Today the Church remembers Hilary, Bishop of Poitiers, 367.
